OAT MILK

oat milk

Oat milk is my greatest obsession. I eat/drink mostly dairy free products (except the occasional In-n-Out or Ben N’ Jerry’s here and there… some things are too good to give up!), and Oat milk has become my favorite! It is so creamy and slightly sweet, without any added sugar. Oat milk is a great non-dairy option because it is a solid source of iron, calcium and many vitamins and minerals.

It makes a delicious coffee creamer but I love using it as a base for my hot matcha lattes! It mixes perfectly with all the ingredients and has such a comforting taste. My favorite brand to buy is Oatly, but if you can’t find it in your area or want to make it at home, I got you.

What you’ll need:

  • 1 cup oats

  • 3 cups filtered water (+ additional for soaking)

  • Additional flavors: cinnamon, vanilla extract, coconut sugar, sea salt, honey, dates, matcha powder, cacao or any other flavoring you see fit! I used 1/2 tsp cinnamon, a pinch of sea salt and 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

  • High speed blender

  • Fine mesh strainer

  • Nut milk bag (my recommendation) or cheese cloth

  • Pitcher or large beverage container to strain

Directions:

  1. Soak 1 cup of oats in additional filtered water for 1-4 hours. I soaked mine for about 3 - the longer you soak, the easier they blend.

  2. After soaking, strain oats in fine mesh blender and rinse thoroughly.

  3. Add rinsed oats to high speed blender with flavorings of choice and 3 cups filtered water. If you are using cacao powder or matcha powder, add in at the end with the finished milk.

  4. Blend ingredients on high for 1-2 minutes until completely blended.

  5. Oat pulp may float to the top of the blender - use a giant spoon to remove this pulp (it will save you a lot of time).

  6. Using nut milk bag or cheese cloth, strain mixture into a large container (a large beverage container with bigger opening will allow you to strain more at one time compared to a small bottle mouth). It is not required, but straining the mixture a second time ensures all pulp is out.

  7. Store in the fridge and use within 5 days for lattes, coffee creamer, smoothies and more! Shake well each time before serving.
